Burhanettin Sahin was elected mayor of Karayazi district of Erzurum province in the local elections of March 31, 2019 with a total of 7,789 votes and with a score of 61.83%. He was arrested on September 3, 2020 on allegations of "belonging to a terrorist organization". There is no final penalty for him at this time.
