Iraq – Statement by the Kurdish regional government on a decision by Iraq’s Supreme Federal Court (14 November 2017)

France welcomes the acknowledgement by the Kurdish regional government of the ruling by Iraq’s Supreme Federal Court on November 6 on the unity of Iraq, as well the willingness it has expressed to engage in dialogue.

We encourage the Iraqi government and the Kurdish regional authorities to immediately engage in dialogue in order to find a political solution and to resolve disputes on the basis of the Iraqi Constitution, while respecting the unity and sovereignty of Iraq and the rights of the Kurds.

France will continue to support the facilitation efforts of Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Jan Kubis.
