US condemns fatal attack by Syrian security forces on celebrating Kurds, demands investigation

WASHINGTON: The United States condemned on Thursday an attack by Syrian security forces on Syrian Kurds celebrating the Kurdish new year. Three Kurds were reported killed and five wounded in the March 20 incident.

In condemning the attack, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack demanded "a full, independent investigation."

Additionally, he said: "We call upon the Syrian government to refrain from using violent measures to repress Kurdish civilians."
